The Importance of Community Engagement and Research
The Cancer Center is deeply committed to helping residents of our local communities, particularly those that are medically-underserved. We are keenly aware of the disparities that exist among minority and ethnic populations when it comes to cancer risk, prevention and treatment. Whether it is access to care, access to clinical trials, cancer screening, information about preventive behaviors or genetic profiling, members of our team go into our communities to study, communicate, and provide support to alleviate the unequal burden that cancer poses to our constituents.
The strategic partnerships and relationships we have within our communities are of paramount importance. These relationships offer a wealth of resources for support, spiritual guidance, and financial and legal assistance, and in some cases, just another outlet to be surrounded by someone on the cancer journey.
