PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM: Students must have completed ALL M3 Core Clerkships.

PURPOSE: To acquaint with performing a history and pediatric neurological examination and experience the scope of a pediatric neurology practice.

COMPETENCIES: To acquire skills to perform a pediatric neurological examination and formulate a differential diagnosis.

INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES: : The Department of Neurology at Advocate Christ Medical Center has been teaching medical students for over 30 years. We have gained great expertise in being able to translate the complexities of medical/neurological histories and physicals in a palatable, entertaining and inform active manner to our students. The structure of the pediatric Neurology program includes inpatient service, 5 day/week outpatient clinic, lectures and teaching tapes. The weekly schedule is Monday through Friday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) and Saturdays are optional. No night call is required of the students. The service usually includes the Pediatric Neurology attending physician, the Neurology resident (PGY 3) and/or the Pediatric resident (PGY 2 or 3). The atmosphere is informal; questions as well as constructive criticism are encouraged.
   
ASSESSMENT: An evaluation form will be filled out at the end of the rotation.

Reporting Instructions:

Students must check-in with Rachelle Ochoa at 8:00 AM on their first day of the rotation in the Physician Office Building (POB) Suite 101. Forms for picture IDs will be given at that time. All forms must be submitted to me no later than 2 weeks before the first day of the rotation.
