INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES: Students will be assigned to an inpatient general medicine service and will be acting in the role of a sub-intern. In aggregate, students will work up 4 to 6 patients per week and, along with the supervisory resident, be responsible for the care of these patients under the supervision of the attending physician. Overnight call is every 6th night. While on overnight call, students will also have the opportunity to serve as medical officers of the day, a goal that will be accomplished by assigning students to interns who are serving in this role. In all cases, students will be treated like junior house officers. They will be expected to attend the didactic sessions designed for residents. They will present cases to their attending and at morning report, as do the interns.
